''US TRAINED AND FUNDED'' HONDURAS POLICE & MILITARY USE TEAR GAS AGAINST JOURNALISTS RALLY  http://www.namnewsnetwork.org/v2/read.php?id=179139 Honduran police and military beat and used tear gas against a march by journalists to denounce the assassination of colleagues in the country.About 100 officers of the Presidential Guard of Honour attacked the demonstrators who marched under the motto "Journalists for Life and Freedom of Expression", a week after the assassination of journalist Luz Marina Paz. Seventeen journalists have been murdered since last year.The incident occurred when protesters, mostly women dressed in black, gathered near Government House in the capital here.The violent deaths of media workers in Honduras have increased with a criminal pattern since the coup d'etat that overthrew then President Manuel Zelaya (June 2009), during the de facto regime of Roberto Micheletti and his successor, Porfirio Lobo, a statement from the protest organisers said.The statement said the protesters demanded a free country to exercise journalism, and the investigation and punishment for those who steal from the state's coffers.The practice of journalism in Honduras is marked by murders and impunity, said National Human Rights Commissioner Ramon Custodio commenting on the demonstration.
