CUBA-CARICOM: Raul Castro in Trinidad Tobago. CARICOM Overview

South Journal—Cuban President met on Wednesday an official agenda in Trinidad Tobago prior to the 4th Cuba-CARICOM Summit, where he is scheduled to address heads of state and government of the regional bloc on Thursday. The Cuban head of state was welcomed in Port of Spain by President George Richards and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. During separate official talks with his hosts Raul Castro expressed his gratitude for the attitude assumed back in 1972 by Trinidad-Tobago, Guyana, Barbados and Jamaica of establishing diplomatic relations with Cuba. This unquestionably brave political decision, adopted by small and newly independent countries in a climate of hostility and enormous pressures, was a fundamental step toward breaking the diplomatic and trade blockade on Cuba in the region, and a breach in the isolation imposed on Cuba through the OAS. Our country will never forget this noble gesture on the part of its Caribbean brothers,” said Fidel Castro as on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of those relations, 8 December 2002, in Havana.
The Obama administration has approved a provocation by the so-called Miami-based Democracy Movement against Cuba next December 9. The action consists of a flotilla that will approach Cuban waters and shoot high-power flares and other provocative initiatives, with the aim of increasing tensions between Havana and Washington.Miami media outlets and spokespersons with the provocateurs said that last November 2, the director of the Cuba Bureau at the State Department, Peter Bremman met with the president of the Democracy Movement, Ramon Saul Sanchez in Washington D.C.Breman approved the subversive action, said the organizers, while the Democracy Movement committed itself to remain in international waters. The provocation will run December 9 to 11, with the objective of raising tensions between the United States and Cuba and support internal counterrevolutionary groups.
